About this Scaffolding Intermediate Course

Looking to upgrade your scaffolding licence to the Intermediate level? You’re in the right place.

This course covers the skills and knowledge required to erect, alter and dismantle intermediate-level scaffolding. It includes work with:

  • Cantilevered crane-loading platforms
  • Spurred and cantilevered scaffolds
  • Barrow ramps and sloping platforms
  • Perimeter safety screens and shutters
  • Mast climbers

Tube and coupler scaffolds (including covered ways and gantries)

You’ll learn how to safely set up and take down these structures in accordance with licensing requirements across Australia.

All course participants must be:

  • 18 years or older
  • Able to read, understand, and write English
  • Able to produce and meet the evidence of identity criteria as per SafeWork / Worksafe identification requirements

Protective Personal Equipment – safety boots, high-visibility vests, and hard hats– is mandatory.

If a participant requires a reassessment for a High-Risk Work Licence an additional $250.00 + GST reassessment fee will apply.

Private training can be organised and conducted onsite if the following training and assessment requirements are met:

  • A room with access to power, a blank wall for presentation, a projector screen or a large TV, table/s and chairs.
  • Slewing Mobile Crane, with a telescopic boom and a winch with a minimum lifting capacity of 2t or more (with current service history, free from faults and operator manual present)
  • Licenced crane operator (must hold HRW C2 licence or higher)
  • Lifting equipment: Slings, tagline rope, fibre rope (minimum 10mm)

Required loads:

  1. Loose pipes in stillage (Minimum 2000kg)
  2. Steel plate (approx. 25mm, 1.5 x 0m)
  3. Square Load with defined lifting points such as a bin (minimum 2 tonne)
  4. Round load, such as a telegraph pole/log (minimum of 5m long)
  5. Uneven weighted load such as bin with material inside (minimum 2 tonne)

Learning Outcome
On successful completion, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and manage scaffolding hazards

  • Read and follow scaffolding plans

  • Understand load ratings and structural stability

  • Build and dismantle various scaffold types including:

    • Modular, frame, mobile, trestle, bracket, and birdcage scaffolds

    • Tube and coupler systems

  • Use ancillary safety equipment such as harnesses, gin wheels, and safety nets

  • Perform inspections and basic maintenance of scaffolding equipment

Licence Outcome
You’ll receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment and a High-Risk Work Licence (Class SI) issued by the WHS authority in your state or territory (e.g. SafeWork NSW or WorkSafe QLD).

What is Intermediate Scaffolding?

Scaffolding work includes putting up, changing or taking down of a temporary structure that is used to support a work platform, where a person or object could fall more than four metres.

To perform intermediate scaffolding duties you need to have an Intermediate Scaffolding – SI high risk work licence.

To apply for an intermediate scaffolding licence you must hold, or have passed assessment for, a basic scaffolding licence.

Intermediate scaffolding work includes:

  • scaffolding work included in the class of Basic Scaffolding
  • tube and coupler scaffolds including tube and coupler covered ways and gantries
  • cantilever crane loading platforms
  • cantilever and spurred scaffolds
  • barrow ramps and sloping platforms
  • scaffolding associated with perimeter safety screens and shutters
  • mast climbers.

SafeWork/WorkSafe conditions of assessment:

  • Applicants to be at least 18 years of age.
  • Able to produce 100 points or more of identification as per the SafeWork/WorkSafe identification checklist.
  • Speak and understand English at a level to be able to participate in the training and assessment

Note: Verbal assessments can be arranged for applicants with writing and reading difficulties (extra charge applies)

Important Information

If a participant withdraws from a qualification/unit, with less than seven (7) business days notice prior to commencement, Kallibr Training reserves the right to retain the 30% administration booking fee.

No refund will be provided within two (2) business days prior to commencement. No refund will be permitted after course commencement or if a participant fails to attend on the scheduled commencement date.
