About this Workplace Spotting Course

Looking to become eligible to apply for registration as a Spotter in Victoria? The 22597VIC Course in Workplace Spotting for Service Assets provides the knowledge and practical skills required to perform spotting duties when plant and equipment operate near overhead electrical assets and underground services in accordance with Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) requirements.

This course is essential for individuals working within “No Go Zones” and those responsible for monitoring plant operating near live electrical infrastructure. It covers the legislative framework, hazard identification, establishing exclusion zones, communication protocols, and emergency response procedures.

All course participants must be:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Hold current HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
  • Hold current HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Provide evidence of plant competency relevant to the equipment they intend to spot for

Plant competency requirements:

  • Dogging or Rigging High Risk Licence holders may act as a Spotter for any plant (subject to meeting all other requirements).

  • For other plant types, participants must hold a relevant WorkSafe licence, Certificate of Competency, or provide evidence of training and/or experience where no formal ticket exists (e.g., EWP under 11m, vehicle-mounted crane under 10 tonne/metres).

Participants are responsible for ensuring they meet Energy Safe Victoria registration requirements prior to applying.

  • At our Carrum Downs facility, or

  • On-site at your workplace (subject to suitability and minimum numbers).

Learning Outcome

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify electrical hazards associated with overhead and underground service assets

  • Interpret and apply Energy Safe Victoria “No Go Zone” requirements

  • Establish and maintain safe approach distances for plant and equipment

  • Communicate effectively with plant operators during spotting operations

  • Monitor plant movement and implement safe systems of work

  • Apply emergency response procedures in the event of electrical contact or an incident

  • Understand the legal responsibilities of a Spotter under Victorian regulatory requirements

Certification Outcome

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a Statement of Attainment for:

Upon successful completion, an application will be made to Energy Safe Victoria for Spotter Registration, subject to meeting all eligibility requirements and ESV approval.

If a participant withdraws from a qualification/unit, with less than seven (7) business days notice prior to commencement, Kallibr Training reserves the right to retain the 30% administration booking fee.

No refund will be provided within two (2) business days prior to commencement. No refund will be permitted after course commencement or if a participant fails to attend on the scheduled commencement date.
