About this Personnel and Materials Hoist Course

This course covers all the requirements for obtaining a national High Risk Work Licence (Class HP) to operate a builder’s hoist used for lifting personnel, goods, or materials.

A builder’s hoist may include a car, structure, and associated machinery. This can include cantilever hoists, tower hoists, or systems operated by multiple winches.

Please note: The hoist used in this training must be capable of stopping at a minimum of three different levels, including at least one floor level.

Course Outline

The CPCCLHS3001 course is designed to build practical and safety-focused skills across each training day. Here’s how the training is structured:

  • Day 1: Introduction to WHS licensing and hoist safety

  • Day 2: Hands-on hoist operations and load handling

  • Day 3: Assessment for High Risk Work Licence (Class HP)

Each session builds on the last, gradually developing your competency to safely operate a personnel and materials hoist on site.

All course participants must be:

  • 18 years or older
  • Able to read, understand, and write English
  • Able to produce and meet the evidence of identity criteria as per SafeWork / Worksafe identification requirements

Protective Personal Equipment – safety boots, high-visibility vests, and hard hats– is mandatory.

If a participant requires a reassessment for a High-Risk Work Licence an additional $250.00 + GST reassessment fee will apply.

Private training can be organised and conducted onsite if the following training and assessment requirements are met:

  • A room with access to power, a blank wall for presentation, a projector screen or a large TV, table/s and chairs.
  • Slewing Mobile Crane, with a telescopic boom and a winch with a minimum lifting capacity of 2t or more (with current service history, free from faults and operator manual present)
  • Licenced crane operator (must hold HRW C2 licence or higher)
  • Lifting equipment: Slings, tagline rope, fibre rope (minimum 10mm)

Required loads:

  1. Loose pipes in stillage (Minimum 2000kg)
  2. Steel plate (approx. 25mm, 1.5 x 0m)
  3. Square Load with defined lifting points such as a bin (minimum 2 tonne)
  4. Round load, such as a telegraph pole/log (minimum of 5m long)
  5. Uneven weighted load such as bin with material inside (minimum 2 tonne)

Learning Outcome
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand WHS licensing requirements

  • Communicate effectively and work safely on site

  • Identify hazards and apply risk controls

  • Determine load weights accurately

  • Operate hoists to raise and lower loads safely

  • Monitor controls and follow emergency procedures

  • Perform pre-start checks and shutdown processes

Licence Outcome
A nationally recognised Statement of Attainment and a High-Risk Work Licence (Class HP) will be issued through the WHS authority in your state or territory (e.g. SafeWork NSW or WorkSafe QLD).

What is a Personnel and Materials Hoist?

A materials or personnel hoist is used to hoist personnel, goods and/or materials. It comprises a car, structure, machinery or other equipment associated with the hoist, and may be either a cantilever hoist, tower hoist or a multiple winch operation.

Included in this definition are situations where winches may be configured to operate as hoists for the transportation of personnel.

SafeWork/WorkSafe conditions of assessment:

• Applicants to be at least 18 years of age.
• Able to produce 100 points or more of identification as per the SafeWork NSW / WorkSafe QLD identification checklist.
• Speak and understand English at a level to be able to participate in the training and assessment

Note: Verbal assessments can be arranged for applicants with writing and reading difficulties (extra charge applies)

Important Information

If a participant withdraws from a qualification/unit, with less than seven (7) business days notice prior to commencement, Kallibr Training reserves the right to retain the 30% administration booking fee.

No refund will be provided within two (2) business days prior to commencement. No refund will be permitted after course commencement or if a participant fails to attend on the scheduled commencement date.
