About this Breathing Apparatus Training Course
Working in hazardous or low-oxygen environments? This course provides the essential skills to safely operate and maintain breathing apparatus (BA) in irrespirable atmospheres—such as confined spaces, areas with toxic gases, or oxygen-deficient conditions.
The unit MSMWHS216 – Operate Breathing Apparatus also covers the selection, inspection, use, and servicing of respiratory protective equipment in line with Australian Standards.
This training is ideal for workers in utilities, mining, construction, emergency response, or any role where respiratory protection is required.

What is a confined space?
WHS Regulations state: A 'confined space' means an enclosed or partially enclosed space that:
- is not designed or intended to be occupied by a person
- is, or is designed or intended to be, at normal atmospheric pressure while any person is in the space; and
- is or is likely to be a risk to health and safety from an atmosphere that does not have a safe oxygen level
