Statewide Civil
Training needs analysis through Mobile Plant Operator Training Services
Statewide Civil is a leader in the civil construction sector, with over 17 years of experience delivering projects across NSW.
With a focus on continuous improvement for their workforce of 50 people, the management team was keen to ensure that their existing workers were well equipped with the right skills and knowledge to deliver major civil projects and ensure they could access career progression opportunities within the business.
Our Solution
Working with Mobile Plant Operator Training Services (RTO 91589), the team at Statewide Civil identified 21 employees who lacked the necessary training and/or qualifications required to fulfil their duties. This skills gap was also preventing these employees from accessing opportunities to further their careers within the company.
Leigh-Ann Dryden from the MPOTS team along with Chantelle Young from Training Services NSW helped Statewide Civil gain access to Smart & Skilled – Skilling for Recovery part qualifications, a NSW Government funded initiative, via a Training Needs Identification (TNI) Application that was submitted to the department.
Leigh-Ann identified that many of her clients are eligible for funding opportunities, but they simply don’t have time to work through the paperwork and processes involved.
“This assessment process can be overwhelming for companies who are busy juggling multiple civil construction projects and day-to-day tasks, so we provide a consultative approach to assist our clients in getting access to fee-free or reduced fee training for their staff,” notes Leigh-Ann.
“With Statewide Civil, we worked with their HR team and a representative from Training Services NSW to complete and submit an application for Smart and Skilled funding,” adds Leigh-Ann.
“We supported them through the process of accessing funding, and so far 21 students have commenced their training with a planned completion date of August 2022. Statewide Civil has been able to successfully upskill these employees at no cost thanks to the short courses funded by the Skilling for Recovery program and delivered by MPOTS.”
Under the Skilling for Recovery program for this civil construction business, we delivered RIIMPO318F Conduct Civil Construction Skid Steer Loader Operations and RIIMPO320F Conduct Civil Construction Excavator Operations to students at our Ingleburn training centre, with candidates gaining their nationally accredited unit of competency.
In addition, several students will soon be enrolled into a RII40720 Certificate IV in Civil Construction traineeship.
The RII40720 Certificate IV in Civil Construction traineeship is a 24 month nationally recognised qualification giving the students opportunities to progress into supervisory roles within the company. This program is aimed at emerging leaders, senior foremen and supervisors within the civil construction industry.
“There are some excellent opportunities out there to access funding, especially within the construction sector, and we’re here to help guide civil contractors through the process,” adds Leigh-Ann.
The results
The outcome of this training is that students developed skills and knowledge within their current roles and tasks. The students are now able to receive better job opportunities within the business with the right skills and qualifications.
