Course Description
This course will provide a sound knowledge and skill base for you to Butt Weld polyethylene (PE) plastic pipelines and to weld Polyethylene (PE) plastic pipes using Electrofusion. It also covers Socket fusion of polyethylene pipe and fittings, saddle fusion of polyethylene service tee and polyethylene pipe identification. It includes Butt Fuse large diameter polyethylene (PE) gas pipeline systems including preparing to weld polyethylene (PE) pipe, jointing, handling, construction, and welding polyethylene (PE) gas distribution mains and also applies to large polyethylene pipe diameter greater than 180mm.
This course relates to an experienced technician working alone or as part of a team.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, participants will have gained the following skills and knowledge in:
- Butt Fusion of Polyethylene pipe and fittings up to 63mm
- Socket Fusion of Polyethylene pipe and fittings
- Saddle Fusion of Polyethylene Service Tee
- Polyethylene Pipe Identification
- Identify materials as being compatible for welding
- Calculate pipe welding parameters
- Maintain and adjust welding equipment
- Perform butt welding operations
- Visually inspect completed joints
- Identify compatibility of commercial electrofusion control systems
- Maintain and adjust electrofusion control unit equipment
- Perform electrofusion welding operations
- Visually inspect completed electrofusion joints
- Prepare to weld polyethylene pipe
- Construct and weld polyethylene gas distribution mains
- Complete work and relevant documentation
Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be provided with a Statement of Attainment.
Certificate of attendance for non-accredited short course – (K-006) will be provided upon successful completion.
At the completion of the Initial Polyfusion course you will also receive a welder ID number and stamp.
