About this Launch and Recover PIGs Course

Need to safely launch and recover PIGs in gas pipelines? You’re in the right place.

This course provides the practical skills and theoretical knowledge required to launch and recover pipeline inspection gauges (PIGs) in gas distribution pipelines. It ensures participants can confidently operate PIG traps, clear pipelines of obstructions, and prepare the system for safe commissioning.

Training is based on industry standards and manufacturer specifications and is suitable for workers involved in gas pipeline operations and maintenance.

Course Outline

The Launch and Recover PIGs course includes both classroom-based learning and hands-on practical training.

Training covers:

  • Planning and preparing for pipeline pigging activities

  • Launching and recovering PIGs safely and efficiently

  • Inspecting and operating PIG traps

  • Identifying and resolving obstructions or issues

  • Restoring pipelines to operational status

  • Completing documentation and reporting in line with work procedures

This course focuses on safe work practices, equipment handling, and real-world operational readiness.

All course participants must be:

  • 18 years or older
  • Able to read, understand, and write English
  • Able to produce and meet the evidence of identity criteria as per SafeWork / Worksafe identification requirements

Protective Personal Equipment – safety boots, high-visibility vests, and hard hats– is mandatory.

If a participant requires a reassessment for a High-Risk Work Licence an additional $250.00 + GST reassessment fee will apply.

Private courses can be arranged at any of our facilities in New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland, or for added convenience, we can come to you and deliver the course at your site, provided your site meets training and assessment requirements.

Learning Outcome
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Prepare for pigging operations in accordance with job requirements

  • Launch and recover PIGs and handle equipment safely

  • Monitor pipeline conditions and assess for obstructions

  • Return pipelines to service and complete all required documentation

Outcome
On successful completion, participants will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for Launch and Recover PIGs.

If a participant withdraws from a qualification/unit, with less than seven (7) business days notice prior to commencement, Kallibr Training reserves the right to retain the 30% administration booking fee.

No refund will be provided within two (2) business days prior to commencement. No refund will be permitted after course commencement or if a participant fails to attend on the scheduled commencement date.
