About this Commission/Decommission & Pigging Course

Looking to work with gas distribution pipelines? You’re in the right place.

This course provides the essential skills and knowledge to safely commission and decommission gas distribution pipelines, as well as launch and recover pipeline inspection gauges (PIGs) and perform polyethylene (PE) pipe squash-off procedures using jacks or pliers.

It’s ideal for gas technicians, field operators, and workers involved in pipeline construction, maintenance, and shutdown activities.

Course Outline

This comprehensive course includes a combination of theory and hands-on training using industry-standard tools and procedures.

Training covers:

  • Planning and preparing for pigging operations

  • Launching and recovering pipeline inspection gauges (PIGs)

  • Cleaning and drying pipelines prior to commissioning

  • Re-establishing pipelines to operational condition

  • Preparing for and conducting gas pipeline commissioning and decommissioning

  • Using polyethylene squash/squeeze-off jacks and pliers

  • Completing job documentation in line with WHS and industry standards

Non-accredited modules are delivered alongside accredited units to support real-world gas distribution operations.

All course participants must be:

  • 18 years or older
  • Able to read, understand, and write English
  • Able to produce and meet the evidence of identity criteria as per SafeWork / Worksafe identification requirements

Protective Personal Equipment – safety boots, high-visibility vests, and hard hats– is mandatory.

If a participant requires a reassessment for a High-Risk Work Licence an additional $250.00 + GST reassessment fee will apply.

Private courses can be arranged at any of our facilities in New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland, or for added convenience, we can come to you and deliver the course at your site, provided your site meets training and assessment requirements.

Learning Outcome
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Perform pigging of gas pipelines to check for obstructions

  • Launch and recover PIGs using correct procedures

  • Commission or decommission a gas distribution pipeline safely

  • Use PE squash/squeeze-off tools in accordance with safety procedures

  • Complete documentation and reporting requirements

Outcome
Upon successful completion, participants will receive:

  • A nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for accredited units

  • A Certificate of Attendance for the following non-accredited short courses:

    • K-006 – Polyfusion

    • K-014 – PE Squeeze-Off

    • K-004 – Pipe Prep

    • K-012 – Recommissioning/Decommissioning Support

If a participant withdraws from a qualification/unit, with less than seven (7) business days notice prior to commencement, Kallibr Training reserves the right to retain the 30% administration booking fee.

No refund will be provided within two (2) business days prior to commencement. No refund will be permitted after course commencement or if a participant fails to attend on the scheduled commencement date.
