About this Bridge & Gantry Crane Course

Looking to get your Bridge & Gantry Crane ticket? You’re in the right place.

This course covers all the requirements for obtaining a national High Risk Work Licence (Class CB) for operating bridge and gantry cranes.

Successfully completing this course will allow you to operate a bridge or gantry crane that is either:

  • controlled from a permanent cabin or control station, or

  • remotely controlled with more than three powered operations (such as hoisting, travelling, traversing, or rotating attachments).

This includes cranes with:

  • a single hoist and four powered motions

  • multiple hoists with four or more powered motions (e.g. two hoists = five powered operations: hoisting x2, traversing x2, travelling)

What is a powered motion?

Each of the following a considered 1 powered motion.

  • North/south travel
  • East/west travel
  • Hoist up/down
  • Rotating attachment—this also includes the application of load estimation and slinging techniques to move a load.

Course Outline

Day 1: Introduction to Crane Safety and Relevant Acts and Regulations

Days 2 – 4: Practical Skills Training on Crane Operations

Day 5: High Risk Work Licence (Class CB) Assessment

The TLILIC0016 course is designed to progressively build your crane operation knowledge and skills across five days, with each session building on the last to prepare you for safe, confident operation.

All course participants must be:

  • 18 years or older
  • Able to read, understand, and write English
  • Able to produce and meet the evidence of identity criteria as per SafeWork / Worksafe identification requirements

Protective Personal Equipment – safety boots, high-visibility vests, and hard hats– is mandatory.

If a participant requires a reassessment for a High-Risk Work Licence an additional $250.00 + GST reassessment fee will apply.

Private training can be organised and conducted onsite if the following training and assessment requirements are met:

  • A room with access to power, a blank wall for presentation, a projector screen or a large TV, table/s and chairs.
  • Slewing Mobile Crane, with a telescopic boom and a winch with a minimum lifting capacity of 2t or more (with current service history, free from faults and operator manual present)
  • Licenced crane operator (must hold HRW C2 licence or higher)
  • Lifting equipment: Slings, tagline rope, fibre rope (minimum 10mm)

Required loads:

  1. Loose pipes in stillage (Minimum 2000kg)
  2. Steel plate (approx. 25mm, 1.5 x 0m)
  3. Square Load with defined lifting points such as a bin (minimum 2 tonne)
  4. Round load, such as a telegraph pole/log (minimum of 5m long)
  5. Uneven weighted load such as bin with material inside (minimum 2 tonne)

Learning Outcome

On completion of the course, participants will have gained the following skills and knowledge to:

  • Plan Operations: Hazard management and consultation
  • Pre-operational Inspections: Crane and associated equipment
  • Set up: Crane and lifting equipment
  • Transfer Loads: Shift loads with slings or lifting devices
  • Conclude Operations: Shut down and secure crane following site specific procedures

Course Outcome
Participants who successfully complete this course will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment in TLILIC0016 – Licence to operate a bridge and gantry crane and a High Risk Work licence Class CB will be issued through the WHS authority in your jurisdiction if you successfully complete your High Risk Work licence assessment and application.

What is a Bridge Crane?

A bridge crane:

  • consists of a bridge beam or beams that are mounted to end carriages at each end
  • is capable of travelling along elevated runways, and
  • has one or more hoisting mechanisms arranged to traverse across the bridge.

What is a Gantry Crane?

A gantry crane:

  • consists of a bridge beam or beams supported at one or both ends by legs mounted to end carriages
  • is capable of travelling on supporting surfaces or deck levels, whether fixed or not, and
  • has a crab with one or more hoisting units

Outcome

A nationally recognised Statement of Attainment in TLILIC0016 - Licence to operate a bridge and gantry crane and a High Risk Work licence Class CB will be issued through the WHS authority in your jurisdiction if you successfully complete your High Risk Work licence assessment and application.

Important Information

If a participant withdraws from a qualification/unit, with less than seven (7) business days notice prior to commencement, Kallibr Training reserves the right to retain the 30% administration booking fee.

No refund will be provided within two (2) business days prior to commencement. No refund will be permitted after course commencement or if a participant fails to attend on the scheduled commencement date.
